Do you have an old sweater that you love but no longer wear, perhaps a cherished holiday sweater from a loved one that you just can’t bring yourself to put on? Why not turn them into a pillow that you can have on display for the holidays or lay your head on while watching your favorite movie. A beginners class that will teach you the sewing basics of cutting the sweater to fit the pillow size, pinning the pieces and then stitching it using a sewing machine. If you don’t have a sweater we will have extras available for you to use. Everyone will leave the workshop with a new pillow.

Unfortunately the growing season of herbs is coming to a close in Northern NJ. But, don’t despair we can turn the last of your basil, oregano or even rosemary into herb salt that you can use all year long! If you have herbs you want to use up bring them, if not- no worries we will have plenty. This is a very easy process of grinding Himalayan pink salt with fresh herbs and then drying them in the oven. We will bring ingredients so every participant will leave with a few different salts. These are perfect for holiday baking and hostess gifts.

Bring any halloween costume you have that needs to be altered or any ideas to making one along with your pets measurements (height of torso, width of chest and head size) we will help you figure it out. Have you seen all the instagram photos and youtube videos around this newest/oldest craft? Using pieces of wool, felt and a few punches of a needel you can create anything! We will start with a piece of felt- bring photos of a simple object or we will provide one for you, using the wool like paint you “punch” it into the felt creating a bit of color and add on from there. An easy process that you can “erase” if you don’t like. This is a beginners class to show the basic technique, we will have follow up classes where we will be felting on sweaters. All participants will leave with a felted image that can be framed or sewn onto a pillow or bag.

Join us as we get ready for the sweetest holiday of all-Halloween! I love a portable sweet that keeps my fingers clean- enter the cake pop! These sweet treats made popular by a certain coffee shop are hard to resist. We will be using a simple cake pop recipe both vanilla and chocolate, dipping them in chocolate and then decorating them with Halloween flare. Everyone will go home with their decorated cake pops-if you don’t eat them on the way!

It’s that time of year- the smell of nutmeg and mulled cider, a nip in the air FALL! My favorite season filled with colorful leaves and cozy sweaters. The Fall decor just makes your house feel homey. Carolyn has created these no sew fabulous pumpkins- so easy to customize to your liking. Our fabric supply is huge and open to you- play with solid canvas, upholstery fabrics, denim or pattern/plaid cottons. Carolyn will walk you through the process step by step. All participants will go home with a pudgie pumpkin or two and the knowlege of how to create more. The studio is always open and supplies available for you to come in after the workshop and create enough pumpkins to make a patch!

Your in luck FLOC member Herb makes them and is going to show us how! Join us as we learn what ingredients you need to make a planter (hint: portland cement) and then mold one for yourself to take home. Herb’s “recipe” includes materials that make these planters light and easy to move around.

Hopefully we have all learned something from our mothers or grandmothers- wether it’s how to bake, sew, paint, knit, or even use a screw gun. The passing down of a craft from one generation to another is a gift. My grandmother a farmers wife taught my mom to sew and my mother taught me. As a child sewing and creating became an outlet for me. I loved the endless possibilities. I went to college for fashion design and had a career designing clothes for children- Thanks Grandma Peggy!

Come and learn to sew by making a small decorative pillow out of a dish towel. A beginners class that will teach you the sewing basics of pinning the towel into an envelope and then stitching it using a sewing machine. All materials provided and you will leave class with your new dish towel pillow. Perfect for a chair for extra support or as a decorative piece. We will be using blue and white towels but if you have a specific one you would like to use just bring in two of them.

I am constantly admiring the stain glass of churches and old homes I am fortunate enough to see on a daily bases. The art of stain glass is truly that- an art. I don’t pretend to know the first thing about creating real stain glass- maybe we can get someone to come lead a workshop for us. Until that happens I would like to brighten up my kitchen window that has a view of my garage! I came across this very easy stain glass “painting” technic that may give me the color I’m looking for. For this workshop we will be using an 5×7 piece of glass, glue, acrylic paint and paint brushes. (given time restraints we will need to start small) I will have simple patterns that you can use to create your custom piece of art.

I have lately become obsessed with leather stamped bracelets and want to customize my own. If you are like me and want to learn how to stamp on leather join us for a leather stamping workshop. You will learn how to use the stamping tools and the tricks to keep your letters straight. We will be practicing on scrap leather before stamping bracelets to take home. During this workshop we will demonstrate a basic reupholstering of a dining chair. This is a demonstration workshop where participants will have the opportunity to use a staple gun and other tools used in the reupholstering process. Come learn how easy it is to give new life to an old chair. If you have a stool or chair at home that needs a new life feel free to bring it in to the workshop!
